Today’s Black Brilliance info is about Violet King was born in 1929, and was the first Black person to get a law degree in Alberta. In 1953, she was the only woman in her graduating class. She was Canada’s first Black female lawyer. King worked hard to teach people that racism and sexism were wrong. In 1998, King was inducted into the National YMCA Hall of Fame. She inspired other racialized women to be lawyers and to follow their dreams.

Hey Seahawks! Do you have any books or textbooks that you don’t want anymore or have no place to put them? We have an opportunity for you to donate those books! The books you will sell will then be sold and the money will be sent to Operation Smile which is an organization that makes money to give unfortunate kids the chance to have a surgery for their cleft lip. For now, the book collection will go from the 15th of February to the 23rd! You can find boxes in the library, near the office and in some classrooms starting on the 15th! Make sure to bring your books next week and become a valuable member of society by helping out children.
Congratulations to our Grade 8 Girls Basketball Team for winning their semi-final playoff game last night. It was a close game for three quarters but our girls managed to close the game off with a brilliant performance! Well done! The Girls play for the District Championship on Saturday at 11:45 am at Delta Secondary School. Good luck to our Grade 8 Girls Basketball team for their Championship game…bring back the gold to Seaquam.
Hey Seahawks! Valentine’s Day is coming up right around the corner, and what better way to celebrate than watching the most iconic romance movie of all time: Shrek! This event will be hosted by Seaquam’s Health Science Club, for the Lub-Dub campaign, and will be fundraising for the Heart and Stroke Foundation. The movie will take place in the theatre next Thursday, February 16th, at 5:30pm. The regular ticket price will be $3 if purchased in advance, and $5 for the ticket plus chips and a drink combo if purchased in advance. Come get your tickets at lunchtime in the cafe! Regular movie tickets will cost $5 at the door. Don’t miss out!
