The Delta School District’s Community Schools Team is providing leadership opportunities for students in grade 10, 11 and 12. Over the past couple of years, the program has held after school programs at Chalmers, Gray, Hellings, Jarvis, McCloskey, and Richardson, as well as organized their first Winter Carnival at Chalmers, Jarvis, and Gray elementary last year with an amazing turnout at each school. In the past, all volunteers have been students from North Delta Secondary and Sands Secondary schools. This year, the program has expanded to run programs at Cougar Canyon, Heath, and Sunshine Hills. With this increase in programs, the program is looking for outstanding volunteers and thus would like to extend a welcome to Seaquam students to apply for positions with them throughout the year. Previously, the program has hired Seaquam students to work as leaders in Summer Day Camps!
The current after school programs include Art Attack at Hellings (Mondays 3:15pm to 4:15pm); Lego Lovers at Cougar Canyon, Heath (Tuesdays 3:15pm to 4:15pm) and Chalmers (Thursdays 3:15pm to 4:15pm); Future Stars Drama Club at Sunshine Hills (Wednesdays 3:15pm to 4:45pm); and Homework Haven at Cougar Canyon (Thursdays 3:15pm to 4:15pm). Each of these programs provide students with the opportunity to lead elementary students in activities to expand their creativity and build confidence. In addition to these programs, they will also be looking for volunteers for our Play Day Camps (9am to 3pm on Pro. D. Days), Winter Carnivals (Date: TBD; 3pm to 8pm) and Winter Day Camps (running 9am to 3pm on Dec. 26th to 28th and Jan. 2nd to 4th). As volunteers, students will gain invaluable experience working with children in a leadership capacity. Additionally, exceptional and experienced volunteers are often offered paid positions.
If students are interested in becoming a volunteer with the Community Schools Team, they should send a completed application (attached) and provide a current resume to to Nisha Ram at email@example.com. Nisha can also answer any questions students may have about this opportunity.
